To celebrate World Design Day 2016 take a cheeky peek inside our graphic designer’s bag and check out the tools he needs for his job as a creative pro.
1. AO Ally Capellino Canvas Satchel
I needed a decent satchel that held 15” Macbook Pro and had enough space for my sandwiches. It was reasonably expensive but considering that it holds all my graphic designer essentials, it is well worth the money I made my Dad spend on it.
2. Suede Desert Boots
I walk everywhere and my shoes wear out in a matter of weeks. The crepe soles are durable and comfortable and bring back the nostalgic days of being a mod in the 1990s.
3. Keys
To get into places, obviously.
4. Denman Hairbrush
I’m really not sure how to rate a hairbrush but it’s been with me throughout my years as a graphic designer. I’m quite attached to it and it goes everywhere with me.
5. Hairspray
Probably the most used item in my graphic designers bag. And I’m not even embarrassed about it.
6. Fisher Space Pen
Apparently it works in zero gravity although I haven’t tested it out properly as I have yet to be asked to be a graphic designer on a spaceship.
7. Field Notes
My retro-style graphic designer’s notebook. It’s a bit hipsterish but it’s handy for making notes on the go, particularly when I’m wearing my safari suit and pith helmet.
8. Moleskine Sketchbook
A classic - every graphic designer should have one.
9. Fulton Flat Umbrella
It rains a lot. I need an umbrella that fits in my graphic designer’s bag so that I can look smug when everyone else has forgotten theirs.
10. Cocoon Grid-it
Definitely the most useful thing in my bag - it keeps all of my wires and graphic designer’s pens and whatnot in place.
11. Pencil by FiftyThree
Not the very best stylus you can buy for the iPad but certainly the most comfortable to use and works perfectly with my Adobe apps.
12. iPad Air
It was a bit of a treat for myself but I find I’m using it more and more for graphic design projects, sketches and notes.
13. Macbook Pro
I have a massive iMac at work but as a graphic designer I find that I prefer to start a project on a smaller screen, particularly website or app design, plus the entire office can’t see it and give their opinions before I’ve even started.
14. Wacom Bamboo
It’s not the top-end graphics tablet but suits my needs perfectly, I use it to create more detailed illustrations or sketches for my graphic design projects.
World Graphic Design Day, 27th April 2016
World Design Day 2016
World Design Day is observed on 27th April every year. It was started by the International Council of Graphic Design Associations (Icograda), which was founded on April 27th way back in 1963. World Graphics Day - also called World Graphic Design Day - was set up to highlight the importance of graphics, communication design, its role and it’s importance in the world today.
