Did you know that after leaving school or college, you could train in a business apprenticeship in sales, IT, customer service, business administration, team leading, management or property management?
For many, an apprenticeship is not such an obvious route, but for those motivated to get started with a real job, earning money whilst receiving training and gaining qualifications all at the same time – it’s the best of both worlds, without the burden of tuition fees or debt.
Yet, many people still think apprenticeships are only available in manual trades such as plumbing or bricklaying. Or that they lead to a particular craft which potentially narrows down their career options later. Or, that they are for people that haven’t done well at school. These are all common misconceptions!
I wanted something that would challenge me. I didn’t want to go to university so I started researching apprenticeships and the opportunities they led to, alongside the opportunities they can open for you, really appealed to me. Since starting my apprenticeship I have grown as a person and started to feel a real sense of responsibility and worth within the company. My advice for a young person in school or college is just go for it.’ Emma aged 18, Intermediate Level Apprentice
