How do you turn a potato into a packet of crisps in less than 20 minutes

Thanks to the incredible systems created by engineers in the food industry, it can take as little as 20 minutes for a potato that has just arrived at a manufacturing plant to become a bag of crisps. The potatoes are simply washed, peeled, fried and seasoned before being popped in a bag!

This is why some of the world’s most famous food and drink manufacturing companies are supporting the MEng Food Engineering degree at Sheffield Hallam University.

During the course every student will get three guaranteed competitively paid industrial placements with a range of top food and drink companies.

Just imagine… you could be working with Kit Kats, Lurpak butter, Warburtons loaves or New York Bakery Co. bagels. These are just some of the many great brands supporting the course.

The course also offers

  • guest lectures from top food industry engineers
  • access to cutting-edge equipment
  • exposure to new technologies and the latest developments
  • qualification to Masters level in just 4 years
  • great career prospects in a leading global industry

And it doesn’t stop there - the opportunities are endless!

The food and drink manufacturing industry is exciting, fast moving and economically strong. It is the UK’s largest manufacturing sector, with an annual turnover of nearly £80 billion. It employs around 400,000 people across more than 7,000 businesses and creates 8,500 new products every year.
